COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The regular season doesn't start until next week, but the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team hits the court Wednesday night in exhibition action at the Hooper Eblen Center with a preseason warmup against Tennessee Wesleyan.
Wednesday's contest is set for a 6 PM tipoff.
After a fantastic season in 2024-25 with the Golden Eagles going on a 17-game winning streak, claiming both the Ohio Valley Conference regular-season and tournament titles and earning their 12th appearance all-time in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, Tech is primed to make more noise in the new season.
Picked second in the OVC preseason poll – just points behind preseason favorite Lindenwood in a close race – the Golden Eagles will use that as motivation as the team return six from last season's roster, including starters Reghan Grimes, Chloe Larry and Reagan Hurst – who missed last season with an injury, with Amelia Pfeiffer, Maddy Newman and Angelika Girgenson primed for big seasons.
Tech also brings in an exciting class of newcomers, featuring transfers Cam Mathews (Tulsa) and Amaya Thomas (Trevecca), as well as freshmen Lyriq Mastin, Lareesha Cawthorn, Amaya Redd and Sofi Miller.
Tennessee Wesleyan is coming off of an 18-13 record last season, including a 12-10 mark in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs lost its top two scorers – Jacelyn Stone (15.7 ppg) and Anna Crowder (12.6 ppg), but have a solid foundation in sophomore Jalaya Lindsey, who averaged 11.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
TWU fields a young roster with four freshmen and five sophomores among its 12-player lineup.
As Wednesday's game is an exhibition contest, statistics will not count toward the regular-season or career numbers.
Tech will open the regular season next Monday, November 3, as the Golden Eagles host the University of the Cumberlands.
