ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Every time Tennessee Tech was able to get back to a tie score or took the lead against Lindenwood on Thursday night, the host Lions just kept finding a way back up front.
Then, the hosts outscored the Golden Eagles 26-15 in the fourth quarter after a 40-40 tie at the end of the third to claim a 66-55 victory over Tech on Thursday night.
The loss extends the Golden Eagles' skid to six straight league games as Tech falls to 10-8 overall, 3-6 in the Ohio Valley. Lindenwood, meanwhile, improves to 14-6, 6-3 in the league.
While there were eight lead changes and four ties in the contest, it all boils down to the fourth quarter. Aleshia Jones scored 15 of her 32 points in the final period as she was 3-for-5 from the field – all 3-pointers made – with a 6-for-6 effort at the line in the final 10 minutes. She ended the game 11-for-12 at the charity stripe and had five 3-pointers in all.
After the Golden Eagles took a two-point lead with 9:36 remaining, the Lions charged ahead and never looked back. Twelve of their 26 points came at the free-throw line as Jones and Gracie Kelsey both went 6-for-6.
Turnovers burned the Golden Eagles as the Lions forced Tech into 20 giveaways, turning those into 26 points.
Fouls also didn't help matters as Tech was whistled for 22 fouls, sending Lindenwood to the line for 21 shots, making 21.
Outside of that, it was a fairly even game with Tech making 21 shots to Lindenwood's 20. Both teams made six 3-pointers. Tech won the glass 35-29. Both teams had 12 assists. In the end, it was turnovers and fouls that won out.
Reagan Hurst led the Golden Eagles with 17 points, including five 3-pointers, while LaReesha Cawthorn had her fourth career double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Chloe Larry had nine points with five assists, while Reghan Grimes finished with eight points and nine rebounds.
In addition to Jones' 32, Brooke Coffey had 16 points and 12 rebounds for Lindenwood, while Kelsey had 10 points.
Tech is scheduled to play SIUE at 1 PM Saturday – weather permitting. If there are schedule changes, updates will be available on TTUsports.com and the Tech Women's Basketball social media accounts.
