Cawthorn named OVC Freshman of the Week
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech freshman LaReesha Cawthorn is already starting to make a name for herself across the Ohio Valley Conference as the true freshman from Franklin, Ky., earned her third OVC weekly honor of the season on Tuesday as she was named the league’s Freshman of the Week. Cawthorn came so close to averaging a double-double on the week as she collected 18 total points and 21 rebounds. While she had three points with six rebounds and a steal against Lipscomb last Monday night, Cawthorn fed off the energy from the Education Day crowd, powering the Golden Eagles to the 82-60 victory over Samford this past Thursday.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech freshman LaReesha Cawthorn is already starting to make a name for herself across the Ohio Valley Conference as the true freshman from Franklin, Ky., earned her third OVC weekly honor of the season on Tuesday as she was named the league's Freshman of the Week.
Cawthorn came so close to averaging a double-double on the week as she collected 18 total points and 21 rebounds. While she had three points with six rebounds and a steal against Lipscomb last Monday night, Cawthorn fed off the energy from the Education Day crowd, powering the Golden Eagles to the 82-60 victory over Samford this past Thursday.
In that game, Cawthorn was 5-for-9 from the field and 5-for-8 at the line for 15 points, then collected 15 total rebounds – 10 on the offensive side and five on the defensive side – to collect her first career double-double with an assist, a steal and a block.
Her 10 offensive caroms paced the Golden Eagles to an astounding 30 offensive boards in the contest.
For the season, Cawthorn leads the team in rebounding with 70 boards (8.8 per game), in blocks with eight (1.0 per game), and is second in steals with 10 (1.3 per game). She is fifth in scoring with 63 total points (7.9 per game).
Cawthorn was previously named both the OVC Player and Freshman of the Week on Nov. 18 after a 9-for-11 performance for 21 points, eight rebounds, an assist, a steal and two blocks in Tech's 63-54 victory over Middle Tennessee, as well as eight points and nine boards in the 61-60 loss to Kennesaw State.
Tech returns to action on Saturday for the first women's/men's doubleheader of the season as the Golden Eagle women take on Stephens College at 1 PM, while the Tech men face Bethel at approximately 3 PM.
