Tech women take on Morehead State Saturday afternoon

After four straight conference losses – the first streak of that caliber since 2019-20 – the Golden Eagles are ready to reverse their recent fortunes as Morehead State comes to town on Saturday. COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It's been a while since the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team has stood in its current situation. After four straight conference losses – the first streak of that caliber since 2019-20 – the Golden Eagles are ready to reverse their recent fortunes as Morehead State comes to town on Saturday.

Tech (10-6, 3-4 Ohio Valley Conference) tried its hardest to break the slide, forcing overtime on Thursday night against Southern Indiana. Tech had a chance to win as the clock wore down, but the final shot didn't fall, leaving the Screaming Eagles on top 71-69.
Morehead State (9-9, 4-3 OVC) saw its five-game winning streak snapped on Thursday morning as the Eagles fell 70-62 at Tennessee State. The host Tigers took the lead late in the third quarter and never looked back. Laura Toffali led the way with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Kate Dike had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while also blocking three shots.
As a team, Morehead State is averaging 65.5 points of offense, while allowing 67.3 on defense. The Eagles are shooting .414 from the field, .293 from 3-point range and .677 at the free-throw line. MSU averages 7.8 3-pointers made per game and 11.8 free throws made per game.
Dike leads the team in scoring with a 14.2-point average and a team-best 7.2-rebound average. Toffali is also averaging double-digit scoring with 12.5 points per game and a team-best 50 steals. Marie Sepp is averaging 10.6 points with a team-high 86 assists, while Violet McNece has a team-best 12 blocks.
The Eagles topped Lindenwood 51-50, SIUE 54-49, UT Martin 67-49 and Southeast Missouri 65-59. Morehead State started OVC play with back-to-back losses to Little Rock (76-63) and Southern Indiana (78-59).
Tech is averaging 68.1 points per game on offense and 62.8 on defense, shooting .379 from the field, .332 from 3-point range and .693 from the charity stripe. Tech is averaging 6.9 made 3-pointers and 15.1 made free throws.
Reghan Grimes leads the team in scoring with a 14.6-point average, while also collecting 41 assists. Chloe Larry is averaging 12.8 points, while Reagan Hurst is averaging 11.8 points and Cam Mathews 10.1 points. LaReesha Cawthorn is averaging 8.3 points with a team-best 151 rebounds, 18 blocks and 27 steals.
Following Saturday's game, Tech hits the road for the next three contests as the Golden Eagles go to Lindenwood (Jan. 22), SIUE (Jan. 24) and Tennessee State (Jan. 27) before coming back to the Hoop on Jan. 31 to take Little Rock.
