Mathews named Player of the Week by Tennessee Sports Writers Association
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – After being named the Ohio Valley Conference's Player and Newcomer of the Week earlier on Tuesday morning, Cam Mathews added another accolade as the Tennessee Sports Writers Association named her their Women's Basketball Player of the Week later Tuesday afternoon. Against Southeast Missouri, Mathews finished with a career-best 34 points – the first Tech player since Reghan Grimes against Tennessee State on January 18, 2024, to score 30 points in a game, as well as the most points scored by a Tech player since Yaktavia Hickson posted 37 against Belmont on January 21, 2017.

Against Southeast Missouri, Mathews finished with a career-best 34 points – the first Tech player since Reghan Grimes against Tennessee State on January 18, 2024, to score 30 points in a game, as well as the most points scored by a Tech player since Yaktavia Hickson posted 37 against Belmont on January 21, 2017.
In that game, Mathews, a Keller, Texas, native, was 10-for-14 from the field in the game, hitting six of nine shots from beyond-the-arc and going 8-for-8 from the charity stripe, while also collecting five rebounds, an assist and a steal in the Golden Eagles' 79-66 victory over the Redhawks.
Against UT Martin, Mathews added 19 points on 7-for-16 shooting with four 3-pointers. She also had a career-high eight rebounds with two assists and a steal as the Golden Eagles defeated the Skyhawks 74-62.
The Golden Eagles are idle this week for the Christmas holiday and will return to action on Tuesday, December 30, looking to extend their 26-game home winning streak against Tennessee State.
