Tech women open homestand with Lipscomb Monday
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – There are homestands and then there are homestands. The Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team is getting the latter as the Golden Eagles spend the entire month of December in the friendly confines of the Hooper Eblen Center. Tech (4-2) opens up the staycation on Monday night as it hosts Lipscomb at 6 PM. Dylan Vazzano, Frank Harrell and Ella Fox will have the call on ESPN+ (subscription required), while Noah McKay and Jacob Vinson will narrate the action on 106.1 The Eagle.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – There are homestands and then there are homestands. The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team is getting the latter as the Golden Eagles spend the entire month of December in the friendly confines of the Hooper Eblen Center.

The homestand continues Thursday as the Golden Eagles host Samford in the team's annual Education Day game at 11 AM. With a nine-day break for finals and graduation, Tech will host Stephens College on Dec. 13, then opens their final season of Ohio Valley Conference play with three home contests – Southeast Missouri (Dec. 18), UT Martin (Dec. 20) and Tennessee State (Dec. 30).
Monday night's game against the Bisons is the 11th all-time in the series with Tech holding on to a 6-4 lead. The Golden Eagles have won the last two games, including a 78-58 win at The Hoop on Dec. 21, 2019. The two teams did face each other in a preseason exhibition last season with Lipscomb winning 74-72, but does not count in the all-time series.
Lipscomb enters the contest with a 2-4 record, falling in three of the last four games. The Bisons opened the season with an 80-46 loss at Indiana, then topped Sewanee 105-46. Chattanooga handed Lipscomb a close 59-56 loss, then the Bisons rebounded with a 74-49 victory over Johnson University. The last two games were losses on the road at Mississippi Valley State (72-68) and rival Belmont (80-60).
As a team, Lipscomb is averaging 68.2 points per game and allowing 64.3. The team shoots .414 from the field, .313 from 3-point range with an average of 8.3 long-range shots per game, and .692 from the free-throw line with an average of 13.5 made.
Molly Heard leads the team in scoring with a 14.5-point average, while Hannah Richardson is also in double-digits at 10.0. Elena Bertrand and McKayla Miller are close behind at 9.3 and 9.2, respectively. Taylor Bowen leads the team with an 8.2-rebound average, while Heard and Bertrand have a team-best 15 assists. Hope Counts has a team-best 13 blocks, while Heard and Miller have the most steals with eight.
The Golden Eagles enter the game with a 4-2 record, including a 3-0 start with wins over University of the Cumberlands (92-67), Jackson State (59-53) and Middle Tennessee (63-54). Kennesaw State edged Tech 61-60, then the Golden Eagles countered with a 61-52 win over East Tennessee State. Tech traveled to Los Angeles and took on USC, falling 85-44 before the Thanksgiving holiday.
As a team, Tech is averaging 63.2 points and allowing 62.0. The Golden Eagles are shooting .363 from the field, .300 from 3-point range with an average of 5.5 per game, and .704 from the free-throw line with an average of 16.7 made per game.
Reghan Grimes leads the Golden Eagles in scoring with a 13.8-point average, while Chloe Larry is averaging 11.8 points. Cam Mathews (9.5 ppg) and Reagan Hurst (9.4 ppg) is close to a double-digit average. On the glass, LaReesha Cawthorn is pulling down a team-best 8.2 rebounds a game, while Grimes, Larry and Amaya Redd are all averaging 4.5 rebounds. Mathews leads the team with 16 assists, while Grimes has 13 and Hurst 11. Cawthorn has a team-best seven blocks and Grimes a team-best nine steals.
