Tech women travel to TSU Monday night

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After getting back in the win column over Little Rock on Saturday, the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team will be back in action on Monday as they take on Tennessee State.

Tech won the earlier meeting 69-63 in Cookeville as the two teams played a close battle. Both teams scored 13 in the first and 20 in the fourth with the difference coming in the second and third quarters as Tech outscored State 18-16 in the second and 18-14 in the third for the six-point margin.
Reagan Hurst led the Golden Eagles with 14 points, while Reghan Grimes scored 11 and LaReesha Cawthorn 10. Xai Whitfield led TSU with 16 points and Erin Martin 15.
Tech (11-9, 4-7 Ohio Valley Conference) broke a seven-game slide on Saturday with a decisive 72-47 victory over Little Rock to avoid going winless in the month of January. Now the Golden Eagles look to make some moves in the standings before next month's OVC Basketball Championships at the Ford Center in Evansville.
As a team, the Golden Eagles are averaging 67.3 points a game on offense and allowing 62.6 points on defense. Reghan Grimes leads the team with a 13.8-point average with Chloe Larry catching up with a 13.3-point average. Reagan Hurst is also scoring at a 12.3-point rate per game.
Grimes leads the team with 54 assists, while Cawthorn leads the team in rebounds with a 9.6-board average, while also holding the squad lead in blocks (25) and steals (37).
Tech is shooting .378 from the field, .328 from 3-point range and .706 from the free-throw line. The Golden Eagles average 7.0 3-pointers and 14.6 made free throws per game.
Tennessee State (3-17, 2-8 OVC) has dropped its last four games and eight of its last nine. The Tigers have defeated Southeast Missouri 76-72 and Morehead State 70-62 for their lone conference victories – both in the Gentry Center.
As a team, TSU is averaging 58.3 points a game while allowing 76.3. It is shooting .365 from the field, .296 from long-range and .652 from the line. The Tigers average 4.8 3-pointers and 12.1 free throws made per game.
Aaniya Webb leads the team in scoring with an 11.1-point average, while Whitfield is averaging 9.0. Kiki Roberts leads the team in rebounding with a 6.7 average, Whitfield has the most assists with 43, Martin has a team-best 18 blocks and 25 steals.
Following Monday's game in Nashville, the Golden Eagles will return home this week as Tech hosts Western Illinois on Thursday and Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
