JACKSON, Miss. – Tennessee Tech hits the road for the first time on Friday as the women's basketball team heads down to Jackson, Miss., to take on Jackson State.
Tip off on the game is slated for 6 PM. The game will be carried on SWACTV.
Jackson State opened up the season on Monday with a decisive 117-40 victory over the Mississippi University for Women as JSU had seven players score in double figures, led by freshman Pierre-Noelle Tcheuhchoua with 19 points on 8-for-10 from the field and 3-for-9 at the line.
Derrica McCall and Angel Wilkinson each had 16 points, while Skyler Christmas scored 13, Laila Grany 12, Leianya Messenat 11 and Jada Patton 10.
The Tigers scored 50 points on turnovers – forcing 36 giveaways – while also outrebounding their opponent 62 to 25 with 32 offensive rebounds leading to 30 second-chance points. While JSU did knock down 11 3-pointers, the Tigers scored 60 of their points in the paint and 39 on the fast break.
The Golden Eagles showed offensive prowess in their two outings thus far, scoring what would have been an Eblen Center-record 127 points in the exhibition game against Tennessee Wesleyan, then nearly recorded triple digits again in the season opener Monday vs. the University of the Cumberlands, defeating the Patriots 92-67.
Reghan Grimes, who became Tech's 37th 1,000-point scorer in program history Monday night, led the way with 24 points, including 10 at the free-throw line. Chloe Larry scored 17 points, while Tulsa transfer added 13 and returning graduate Reagan Hurst scored 10. Freshman LaReesha Cawthorn led the Golden Eagles with nine rebounds and a block on the defensive side.
This is the third game in the all-time series against the Tigers with Tech winning both previous meetings. The Golden Eagles defeated Jackson State at home last season, winning 84-56. Peyton Carter scored a then-career-best 21 points, while Taris Thornton and Anna Walker scored 15 and 12, respectively.
After the road outing, the Golden Eagles will return home Tuesday to take on traditional in-state rival Middle Tennessee for a 6 PM contest.
