Jenkins picks up another piece of hardware in being named to OVC All-Tournament Team
Senior forward Willie Jenkins, who received the 2005 OVC Player of the Year Award Thursday night, was named to the 2005 O'Reilly OVC All-Tournament Team following the championship games Saturday afternoon. The 6-foot-6 senior from Memphis scored 21 points and grabbed five rebounds in Tech's 67-61 OVC Tournament semi-final loss to Austin Peay Friday night. He concluded his brilliant Golden Eagle career with his 10th straight game and 23rd of 29 games of scoring in double figures.
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--Senior forward Willie Jenkins, who received
the 2005 OVC Player of the Year Award Thursday night, was named to
the 2005 O'Reilly OVC All-Tournament Team following the
championship games Saturday afternoon.
The 6-foot-6 senior from Memphis scored 21 points and grabbed five
rebounds in Tech's 67-61 OVC Tournament semi-final loss to Austin
Peay Friday night. He concluded his brilliant Golden Eagle
career with his 10th straight game and 23rd of 29 games of scoring
in double figures.
Jenkins helped lead Tech to the regular season championship with a
12-4 mark in league play, its third in the last five seasons, and
the #1 seed in the 2005 O'Reilly OVC Tournament. On Thursday
evening, at the annual post-season awards ceremony, he was named
All-OVC for the second straight season. TTU head coach Mike
Sutton was also named the OVC Coach of the Year.
He finished his career at TTU as the top scoring two-year player
in school history, scoring 1,116 points in just two seasons, which
is good for 21st on the school's all-time scoring list. As a
senior, Jenkins averaged nearly 20 ppg and just under seven
rebounds.
