Golden Eagles glide to 6-1 win over Cumberland
The Tennessee Tech tennis team rolled to another victory in the club’s non-conference home finale as the Golden Eagles topped Cumberland 6-1, Tuesday afternoon at Tech Tennis Courts.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team rolled to another victory in the club's non-conference home finale as the Golden Eagles topped Cumberland 6-1, Tuesday afternoon at Tech Tennis Courts.
The Golden Eagles (9-7, 2-0 Horizon League) have now won five of their last six matches.
Tech took the early edge in doubles play after the No. 1 matchup pitting Alex Alvarez and Davids Spaks against Mateus Mori and Carols Morillas ended with a 3-0 Golden Eagles victory after the Phoenix pair retired.
The purple and gold went onto seize the tandem point and the tilt's early lead after Murilo Burckhardt and Diego Munoz earned a 6-2 win over Mohamed Bouhlel and Matheus Guarnieri in the No. 3 position. The No. 2 tangle featuring Christian Cappuccini and Olivera Dao against Arthur Fernandes and Arne Sohmer did not finish with the Tech duo on top 5-1 at the time it was called.
The Golden Eagles went on to win five of the six solo gatherings to take home the match. Tech took the early singles advantage over Cumberland (6-10) after Oliver Dao prevailed with a 1-0 win over Carlos Morillas in the No. 1 meeting after Morillas retired.
Tech's four other nods were all in straight sets, including three that ended with 6-0 and 6-1 sets. Diego Munoz secured a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Matheus Guarnieri in the No. 3 battle, while Ricard Garavi Yepez picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Mateus Mori in the No. 5 spot and Christian Cappuccini claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win over Magnus Johansen in the No. 6 position. Garavi Yepez has now six singles clashes in a row.
Murilo Burckhardt rounded out Tech's singles success with a 6-3, 6-1 nod over Mohamed Bouhlel in No. 3.
The Phoenix picked up a point in No. 2, thanks to an Arthur Fernandes 2-6, 6-1, 10-6 win over Davids Spaks.
The Golden Eagles will jump back into Horizon League play with a pair of conference contests over the weekend. Tech will host Belmont on Friday at 1 p.m. CT before traveling to TSU for a Saturday meeting in Music City, slated to start at 2 p.m.
