Tech Men's Golf Climbs Leaderboard on Day 2 of Peoples Championship

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - The Tennessee Tech men's golf team delivered one of the best rounds in the field Friday, climbing into fourth place after Round 2 of the 2026 Peoples Championship.
The Golden Eagles posted a 4-under 280 as a team in the second round, the lowest score of the day among the top four teams, moving to even-par (568) through 36 holes. Tennessee Tech jumped from a tie for sixth after the opening round to fourth overall in the 21-team field heading into the final round.
Host Western Carolina leads the tournament at 9-under, followed by Samford (-5) and Xavier (-4), with Tech one stroke behind Xavier in the team standings.
Junior Haden Maxwell paced the Golden Eagles during the second round, firing a 3-under 68 to move into a tie for sixth place individually at 4-under par (138). Maxwell's round marked the best score by a Tech player on the day and placed him firmly among the tournament's top contenders entering the final round.
Cooper Gettler also produced a strong Round 2 for Tech, carding a 1-under 70 to move into a tie for 33rd overall at 2-over (144). Teammate Matthew Shull matched that position in the standings after shooting an even-par 71, also sitting at 2-over for the tournament.
Bryson White remains in the mix near the top of the leaderboard as well, holding a tie for 19th at even-par (142) after a steady second-round 71.
Rounding out the Tech lineup, Nicklaus Etherton sits tied for 58th at 5-over (147) following a 73 in Round 2, while Alex Broyles is tied for 82nd at 8-over (150) after shooting 75.
With momentum from its under-par team round, Tennessee Tech will look to close the tournament strong in Saturday's final round.
