BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the fourth time in her young career, and the second time this season, Tennessee Tech's Chloe Griffith was honored as the Ohio Valley Conference's Female Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league Thursday morning.
The Golden Eagle sophomore tied for third among 63 golfers at the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate in the team's first traditional event of the spring, helping the purple and gold to a fifth-place finish in the 12-team field.
Griffith carded an 8-over 224 in some tough weather conditions, kicking things off with a 1-over 73 with five birdies in Monday's first round. Finishing off round two to open Tuesday's play, the Huntington Beach, Calif. native registered a 2-over 74 with three more birdies.
During Tuesday's final round, Griffith helped the Golden Eagles climb up a spot from sixth to fifth. The youngster produced a 77 in a round that saw all scores across the leaderboard inflated due to weather. She picked up one more birdie, totaling nine for the event.
An All-OVC and OVC All-Newcomer selection last season, Griffith earned the league's Female Golfer of the Week honor twice as a rookie and once more in the team's final event of the fall earlier this season.
Tech will return to the links this Sunday, Mar. 9 by kicking off three days of action at Silver Lakes, part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, for the Chris Banister Golf Classic. Hosted by Jacksonville State, the tournament will feature 54 holes and run through Tuesday, Mar. 11.
