BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the third time in her young career, and the first time this season, Tennessee Tech's Chloe Griffith was honored as the Ohio Valley Conference's Female Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league Thursday morning.
The Golden Eagle sophomore tied for 15th among 70 golfers at the Mercer Invitational in the team's final tournament of the fall, helping the purple and gold to a sixth-place finish in the 12-team field.
Griffith carded a 6-over 222 for the week, kicking things off with a 1-under 71 with four birdies in Monday's first round. Circling the links for a second time on Monday, the Huntington Beach, Calif. native turned in a round of 76, dropping three more birdies into the bucket.
During Tuesday's final round, Griffith helped the Golden Eagles climb up a spot from seventh to sixth. The youngster produced a 75 on the day, backed by three more birdies to give her an even 10 for the weekend.
An All-OVC and OVC All-Newcomer selection last season, Griffith earned the league's Female Golfer of the Week honor twice as a rookie.
Tech will return to the links for the spring season in March, heading to Huntsville, Ala. for the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate. Spanning Monday, Mar. 3 through Tuesday, Mar. 4, the Golden Eagles will compete on the Highlands Course at Hampton Cove.
