Golden Eagles fight in loss at OVC leader Morehead State

The Golden Eagles (7-13, 4-4 OVC) return to the Hooper Eblen Center Thursday and Friday against UT Martin.

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Tennessee Tech gave it a great fight, but Friday belonged to Morehead State as the homestanding Eagles completed the sweep at home, topping the Golden Eagles 25-21, 25-23 and 25-21.
The Golden Eagles (7-13, 4-4 OVC) return to the Hooper Eblen Center Thursday and Friday against UT Martin.
Bella Powell and Alayna Pierce each led Tech with nine kills, while Jordan Karlen had 26 assists. Powell also had nine digs with Karlen and Ella Watford recording seven, while Tuva Falk had three assisted blocks. Freshman Jordyn Milhouse had seven kills, hitting .308.
The Golden Eagles recorded 34 kills in all compared to Morehead State's 43. Tech was able to take advantage of 13 service aces and 15 attack errors from the Eagles (13-5, 7-0 OVC), but the hosts had eight total blocks and hit .267.
M.E. Hargan had 15 kills and Hollan Everett 14, while Amelia Nott had seven kills as she hit .545 for the match. Sydney Sennett had a double-double with 37 assists and 10 digs, while Logan Smith had three of the Eagles' eight service aces.
It was a battle though as the two teams traded leads throughout the three sets. The score was tied seven times with four lead chances in the opening set, then 15 ties peppered the second set with eight lead changes, followed by 14 ties and seven switches in the third.
Tech led 20-18 in the second and saw a 23-23 tie before Morehead claimed the last two rallies. The Golden Eagles also led 17-15 in the third before the hosts rifled off five straight points to take a 20-17 advantage.
