Golden Eagles fall 3-1 at Morehead State
MOREHEAD, Ky. – Tennessee Tech made a valiant effort to try to knock off one of the Ohio Valley Conference’s top teams as the Golden Eagles battled into the fourth set against Morehead State, falling 3-1 on Thursday. Tech (7-12, 4-3 OVC) broke Morehead State’s 17-set winning streak in the third set and had a chance to pull ahead late in the fourth set, but the homestanding Eagles (12-5, 6-0 OVC) held on for a 25-19, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-23 victory.

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Tennessee Tech made a valiant effort to try to knock off one of the Ohio Valley Conference's top teams as the Golden Eagles battled into the fourth set against Morehead State, falling 3-1 on Thursday.
Tech (7-12, 4-3 OVC) broke Morehead State's 17-set winning streak in the third set and had a chance to pull ahead late in the fourth set, but the homestanding Eagles (12-5, 6-0 OVC) held on for a 25-19, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-23 victory.
The two teams meet up once more for the second match on Friday at 3 p.m. Central time.
Bella Powell and Alayna Pierce led the Golden Eagles with 11 kills each, while Jordan Karlen had a double-double with 34 assists and 16 digs. MK Roberts also had 11 digs.
Morehead State finished the match with 11 blocks, including four solo and four assisted for M.E. Hargan, who also had a team-best 11 kills. Hollan Everett had 10 kills, while Sydnett Sennett had 27 assists and 10 digs.
The two teams battled back and forth in the opening set, knotted for the final time at 16-16. MSU scored nine of the final 12 points. Tuva Falk had five kills in the set for the Golden Eagles, while Morehead's Amelia Nott followed suit with five of her own.
In the second set, Morehead State led wire-to-wire, surging out to a 6-1 lead and the hosts continued to climb out by eight at 14-6. Tech climbed back within three points at 18-15, but MSU outscored the Golden Eagles 7-4 in the final 11 rallies to close out the set.
The third set reached a 20-20 tie and Tech was able to claim the final five rallies of the stanza as MK Roberts had a service ace, followed by a Pierce kill, then three straight errors by Morehead State. Jordyn Milhouse and Powell led Tech with four kills in the set.
In the fourth, Morehead State led 23-20, then Tech tied the match as Milhouse and Falk claimed back-to-back kills, then Hargan had an attack error to square the series. A service error gave the Eagles match point, then a block by Hargan and Nott ended the match.
