A look at Tennessee Tech
The Golden Eagles (0-5-2) flock to the state of Georgia having picked up draws in two of the last three matches after an 0-4 start to the season. Tech played to a 1-1 tie against ETSU on Aug. 28 before the purple and gold knotted Chattanooga 2-2 in the club's last contest on Thursday.
The two-goal output was a season high for the Golden Eagles and saw the squad erase a second-half deficit on the way to the stalemate. Trailing 2-1 in the second stanza, Natalie Howard notched her first career goal to pull Tech even in the 63rd minute. The goal was part of a career evening for the Collierville, Tenn. native who picked up an assist on TTU's first goal of the night as part of a three-point showing.
Tori Soutuyo was responsible for the other goal in the match with the Mocs, while an Ebba Melin net-finder in the first half of Tech's 1-1 tie with ETSU rounds out the purple and gold's three goals this season. Howard, Claire Palya and Melina Hamm are responsible for the club's three assists.
The Golden Eagles have faced a sturdy non-conference slate so far this season with all seven opponents posting a .500 or better record. In fact, six of the seven squads have winning records up to this point and the seven schools have combined for a 26-13-4 overall mark.
A look at Kennesaw State
The Owls (0-4-1) are also searching for their first win of the year after suffering their fourth loss of the season in a 3-2 defeat at Mercer in the team's last match on Thursday. The tilt's five goals were all scored in the second half, which included net-finders by Anabel Orozco and Alana Nesbit to account for KSU's pair of goals.
Orozco and Nesbit join Raelyn Prince and Rebecca Wormer as the quartet of Owls that have found the back of the net this season. Delaney Edwards has the lone Kennesaw State assist.
The club's lone draw was a 2-2 knot with North Florida in Kennesaw on Aug. 31. The Owls three other losses came at the hands of Georgia State, Auburn and No. 24 Memphis. They were blanked in all three defeats.
Inside the series
Sunday's battle of the birds will mark the fourth meeting in the all-time set. The Owls have claimed the previous three matchups, including a 1-0 win on Aug. 23, 2013 in the last matchup of the series as part of a neutral-site contest in Knoxville, Tenn.
