COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Another month closer to the start of the season brings another pair of additions to the Tennessee Tech soccer team.
Head coach Corey Boyd and his staff announced the signings of incoming freshmen Bríet Jóhannsdóttir and Emelía Ósk Kruger, who will join the club in the fall of 2026 as the Golden Eagles are set to start competition in their first year as members of the Southern Conference.
"Emelía and Bríet are two players that are coming over from a very high level in Iceland from the top division," Boyd said, on the two newcomers. "Their versatility and experience are a huge bonus for our team and we are excited to have them join us this fall."
Bríet Jóhannsdóttir (pictured left) will suit up in purple and gold following a stellar international career in her native Iceland. Playing for one of the top clubs in the country, Þór/KA, Jóhannsdóttir shined for her squad on the way to winning several Icelandic Cup and Icelandic championships while taking home a slew of individual honors as well. The incoming Tech freshman was voted the team's best player on multiple occasions to go along with a Most Promising Player accolade in 2024. Jóhannsdóttir was also part of a group that claimed the Barcelona Girls Cup and suited up the Iceland U-19 team as well.
"Bríet is a versatile player who can play wingback or in a 10 position," Boyd said. "She is very comfortable in possession, has great recovery pace, and is able to go 1v1 defensively or in attacking positions. Bríet could probably play in a center-back role as well if needed with her athleticism and quick change of direction."
Emelía Ósk Kruger (pictured right) will join the Golden Eagles after enjoying similar success as a teammate of Jóhannsdóttir on Þór/KA. A captain on the 2024 club, Ósk Kruger helped guide the team to both Icelandic and Icelandic Cup titles that year. In 2023 she was named the Player of the Season after serving as the club's top goal scorer, and in 2022, she was voted as the Player of the Tournament after navigating Þór/KA to the Barcelona Girls Cup championship. Ósk Kruger was also named Player of the Season that year as well.
"Emelía is a box-to-box midfielder, who is comfortable in both the 6 and 8 positions," Boyd said. "She has a good range of passing, is comfortable in possession, tough in the tackle, and can take the ball comfortably in tight spaces or support the attack. Emelía will gives us good strength in the midfield, which was a need for us."
Tech soccer is coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance after securing both the OVC regular-season and tournament titles in the program's final year in the league in 2025.
