Tech wraps up regular season on the road; looks to take OVC title this weekend
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - With only two matches left in the regular
season, it is within their reach -- an Ohio Valley Conference
title.
The Tennessee Tech volleyball team looks to finish up the regular
season with a pair of victories on the road at UT Martin and Murray
State in preparation for the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament,
with the location to be determined this weekend. A TTU win in
either match will give the Golden Eagles the No. 1 seed and tourney
host role.
"We will have to be at the top of our game," said head coach John
Blair. "Both teams this weekend have improved throughout the season
and will give us a strong challenge."
UT Martin can play spoiler to the Golden Eagles this weekend when
they host Tech. The Skyhawks are also looking to secure a spot for
themselves in the OVC tournament that they missed out on during
2007. Last weekend, UTM split a pair of matches.
Last Friday night, the Skyhawks swept Eastern Kentucky on the road
before falling at Morehead State, 3-0. Tara Noland leads UTM with
310 kills on the season while hitting .186. For the defense,
Jennifer Roberts is atop the stats for the Skyhawks with 269
digs.
Murray State has gone on a run lately in the OVC. Currently 11-5 in
the conference, the Racers are tied with Austin Peay for third in
the standings. Jade Guo has been named the OVC Setter of the Week
for the past two weeks while the team has gone 4-0.
Kayleah Sauer has also been honored by the OVC the past two weeks
as she is the current OVC Defensive Player of the Week. With two
matches remaining, Murray State also has a chance to win the OVC
regular season.
Live stats will be available for Friday's match at UT Martin but
not Saturday.
