Golden Eagles use all around effort, down EIU, 3-0
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - It almost looked like EIU would make a run
in both the first two sets, but only taking the first two points in
each set would not be enough as the Tennessee Tech volleyball team
use an all-around effort on both offense and defense to claim the
sweep of the visiting Panthers, 3-0.
The attack was led by junior Amanda Lindgren who collected seven
kills while hitting .500. Sophomore Marie Peddicord provided key to
the defense with six blocks.
"We played well tonight," said Head Coach John Blair. "We hit well
and blocked their attack."
The Golden Eagles used timely plays and capitalized on Eastern
Illinois' 21 errors.
The first set saw the score remain close throughout as Tech clinged
onto a three point lead late, but kills by senior Alysson Sanders
and Lindgren gave Tech the 25-17 set one win.
In set two, EIU jumped out to a small 2-0 lead after serving first.
But once more Tech rallied and took a 5-3 lead and never looked
back.
While only hitting .094 in the first set, the Golden Eagles came
roaring back and hit .337 average over the final two sets including
a .375 hitting percentage in the third set while holding the
Panthers to a .000 hitting percentage in the second set and a
negative -.190 in the third.
Senior Kappy Lang had 34 digs and three kills on the evening while
fellow senior Caitlin Bullock had six kills and no errors. Both
were part of the offense that hit .256 for the match and saw five
players with at least six kills.
Eastern Illinois was led by Madison Barr with five kills. Hannah
Deterding added 18 assists and five digs while Brittany Wallace had
a double-digit dig night with 10.
Tech (6-8, 3-1 OVC) returns to the floor Saturday when they face
Southeast Missouri starting at 2 p.m.
