Golden Eagles look to remain as league's lone unbeaten team
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Displaying an exciting and effective blend
of youth and experience, the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles are the
only men's basketball team in the Ohio Valley Conference still
unbeaten in 2008-09.
Coach Mike Sutton's squad hopes to make it 3-0 Saturday night when
they host the Southern Utah Thunderbirds.
It will mark the first-ever meeting between Tech and Southern Utah,
a team from the Horizon League which will bring a 1-1 record to
Eblen Center. After opening the season with a win at home over Mesa
College, Southern Utah dropped a 64-50 contest at Florida on
Thursday night.
The Thunderbirds may be a new foe for Tech, but not for their head
coach. Roger Reid was head coach of Brigham Young when Tech
ventured to Provo back in December, 1991. Reid's Cougars beat Tech,
95-68.
Tech heads into the game with our players currently scoring in
double figures, topped by senior preseason all-OVC center Daniel
Northern with 14.0 ppg. He also leads Tech with 8.0 rebounds per
game.
Also in double digits are juniors Will Barnes and DJ Lindsay with
11.5 ppg each, and freshman Kevin Murphy with 10.0 ppg.
Following the game Saturday, Tech remains at home with another game
Monday night, this time against East Tennessee State at 7 p.m.
Tickets for all individual games, as well as season tickets, are on
sale at the Athletics Ticket Office in Eblen Center or by calling
(931) 372-3940.
