Tech's Daniel Northern featured in 2nd Music City Classic Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Tech senior Daniel Northern will be one of the featured players Saturday night at the 2nd Annual Music City All Star Classic, which will tip-off at 6 p.m. at the Curb Event Center at Belmont University.

The Classic includes a 3-point shooting contest, a slam dunk contest and the all-star game, highlighting some of the best senior college men’s basketball players in Tennessee.

In addition to Northern, players scheduled to compete this year include Alex Renfroe and Andy Wicke from Belmont, Kevin Kanaskie of Middle Tennessee, Jerrell Houston of Tennessee State, Nicchaeus Doaks from UT Chattanooga, Courtney Pigram of East Tennessee State, and Michael Lusk from Lipscomb. Other schools participating include Austin Peay, Cumberland, Trevecca and Martin Methodist.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students with valid ID cards. Tickets are on sale at Ticketmaster.

Northern wrapped up his playing career at Tennessee Tech by being named second-team all-OVC, and was also named second-team all-district by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). A preseason all-OVC selection, he lived up to that billing with his selection to the post-season squads as he led Tech and ranked 14th in the league in scoring with 12.6 points per game, and was the conference leader in blocked shots for the second straight year. The 6-9 post player from Warner Robins, Ga., also ranked second in the conference in rebounding and 10th in field goal percentage. He posted 11 double-doubles during his final campaign, and wrapped up his three-year Golden Eagle career with 879 points.

Last year, Tech had both Anthony Fisher and Amadi McKenzie in the Music City Classic, and McKenzie won the Dunk Contest.

"Anthony and Amadi represented us well last year, and Daniel gets a chance to do that this year, and we're excited for him" said Tech coach Mike Sutton. "It's a nice event. They get some of the best senior players from the area, and these guys make a great night of it. This should be a great experience for Daniel."
