COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - After wrapping up his pitching career at
Tennessee Tech this past spring, former Golden Eagle Zac Cole has
been signed by the Baltimore Orioles organization and is currently
pitching in the Rookie League for the Orioles in the Gulf Coast
League.
Cole, a 6-foot-4 right hander from Lecanto, Fla., went 1-3 during
the 2007 season for the Golden Eagles under coach Matt
Bragga. He worked 38.2 innings and struck out 27 hitters in 16
appearances, posting a 7.45 ERA.
"I am ecstatic for Zac to get this opportunity as he has had this
dream of playing pro ball for a long time." Bragga said. "Any time
one of our players has the opportunity to sign with a major league
organization it is great for them and for our program. We
sure wish Zac all the best.".
Cole has seen limited action in his first weeks with the Orioles,
pitching a single inning of relief in three games.
"We are thrilled that Zac has been signed by the Baltimore Orioles
organization," Bragga said. "He is a young man who put up
incredible numbers for our team as a junior in 2006. He held OVC
opponents to a .206 batting average, which was the second best of
any pitcher in our league. He has an electric fastball that
gives hitters all kinds of fits."
Cole is one of four former Golden Eagles currently working in the
minor leagues. Bubbie Buzachero pitches for the Triple-A Buffalo
Bisons, Casey Benjamin is with the AA Frisco Rough Riders, and Jim
Ed Warden is pitching with the AA Akron Aeros.
