Tech defense keeps it close before falling to UT-C 1-0

The Tennessee Tech soccer team dropped a tight game Wednesday, falling to UT Chattanooga 1-0.

Behind freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Thacker, the Golden Eagle defense held the Mocs (3-3-1) to just one goal, but couldn't find the offense needed to get the win. Thacker finished the game with two saves, and was one shy of her second shutout of the season.

With the game tied 0-0 with under 20 minutes to play, Chattanooga's Morgan Shelton scored what proved to be the game-winning goal, with an assist from teammate D.K. Henry. Shelton finished with two shots on goal

The Golden Eagles (1-7-0) finished with 5 shots, including 1 on goal from sophomore Kathryn Lally.

TTU returns home to face UNC Asheville (2-5-1) in Cookeville on Sept. 21. The Bulldogs are coming off two straight wins, after beating Jacksonville (Fla.) 3-2 in OT on Sept. 14, and Presbyterian 4-1 Wednesday.

UNC Asheville has been to overtime three times in 2008, including a double-overtime tie against UT-Martin. The Bulldogs are 1-1-1 in OT matches.

The game against the Bulldogs begins Sunday at 1 p.m. at Tech Soccer Field. Admission to Tech home soccer games is free.
