COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- After posting her third shutout of the
season, a 2-0 win against Lipscomb in the regular season finale,
Tennessee Tech freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Thacker was named OVC
goalkeeper of the week.
"That is a great way for her to finish the season," assistant
coach Chris Walker said. "She really earned it all season long, and
it's great to see her finally get rewarded."
When the Golden Eagles began practice in August, Walker and head
coach Becky Fletcher knew they would be starting a freshman keeper,
and opened up competition for the spot between Thacker and fellow
freshman Lauren Schaedig.
Although Thacker won the starting job at the beginning of the
season, the spot was up for grabs on a week-to-week basis.
"There was constant competition all for the starting spot all
season long," Walker said. "She continued to improve throughout the
season."
Thacker finished the conference season ranking first in saves per
game, with 7.33. She made 44 saves against OVC opponents, with a
.830 save percentage.
"She kept us in a lot of games this year, and it's going to be
great to have that coming back in the future," Walker said.
