Nine personal-best marks fall on first day of OVC Championships
CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Eight different middle distance and distance runners and one sprinter all set personal-best marks Friday on the first day of the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at Eastern Illinois.

runners and one sprinter all set personal-best marks for Tennessee
Tech Friday on the first day of the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor
Track & Field Championships at Eastern Illinois.
The Tech women's track & field team didn't garner any points
in the team standings, which were led by Tennessee State in the
women's competition and Southeast Missouri in the men's events.
With five events scored on day one, TSU has 38 points in the
women's standings, followed by Southeast Missouri in second (34
points), Eastern Illinois in third (33 points), Murray State in
fourth (28 points), Eastern Kentucky in fifth (20 points), SIU
Edwardsville in sixth (18 points), Austin Peay in seventh (13
points), Belmont in eighth (7 points) and Jacksonville State in
ninth (4 points).
On the men’s side, SEMO leads after five scored events with
50.5 points. EKU is second (42 points), EIU is third (40 points),
TSU is fourth (30.5 points), Belmont is fifth (15 points) and SIU
Edwardsville is sixth (14 points).
For coach Tony Cox's Golden Eagles, four personal-best marks fell
in the 800-meter race and four more in the 5,000-meter event.
At 800-meters, freshman Landy Loving led the way with a time of
2:28.75, which was 22nd overall. She was followed across the line
by teammates Dalis Connell (2:32.62), Elizabeth Mitchell (2:36.36)
and Yeshi Dorhmann (2:43.57), all with personal marks.
Junior Rebecca Cline established a new career-best time at
5,000-meters, finishing in 18:41.89 to finish 14th overall. Other
PR marks came from Beth Miller (19:17.25), Kathryn Forbes
(20:49.84/shown in photo) and Amelia McCoy (21:01.73).
The other personal-best was clocked by freshman Chelsea Mills, who
posted a time of 8.07 seconds in the 60-meter dash.
Mills jumped 16 feet, onehalf inch in the long jump, while Kelli
Keck leaped 15 feet, six inches in the same event. In the high
jump. Erin Keyes cleared the bar at 4 feet, 9.5 inches before being
eliminated from the competition.
Keck had Tech's best time in the 200-meter dash at 27.60 seconds,
while Mills was just behind in 27.75. In the 400-meter run,
Brittany Cotto clocked a 1:06.13 finish.
The only other event Friday in which Tech had entires was the
distance medley relay. The foursome of Loving, Cotto, Connell and
Kendale Caldwell posted a time of 13:13.59.
The final day begins Saturday morning in the Lantz Fieldhouse.
