EIU spoils Golden Eagle rally to sweep series
CHARLESTON, Ill. – Tennessee Tech battled back late to tie the game in the top of the seventh, but Eastern Illinois used smallball in the home half of the inning to claim the 7-6 victory on Sunday to sweep the series. Ella Bishop drove in three runs for the Golden Eagles (15-27, 11-10 OVC), while Julie Martin, Sofia Carroll, Ashley Capelouto and Brooklyn Stewart each had two hits.

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Tennessee Tech battled back late to tie the game in the top of the seventh, but Eastern Illinois used smallball in the home half of the inning to claim the 7-6 victory on Sunday to sweep the series.
Ella Bishop drove in three runs for the Golden Eagles (15-27, 11-10 OVC), while Julie Martin, Sofia Carroll, Ashley Capelouto and Brooklyn Stewart each had two hits.
Mo Hance and Viola Smith each drove in two for the Panthers (26-20, 17-3 OVC), while Chloe Wamboldt was the only EIU player with more than one hit.
Tech outhit the Panthers 11-7 in the contest with the Golden Eagles stranding seven and EIU leaving 10 on the bases.
Faith Rush took the loss in relief, putting the go-ahead runner on base in the seventh. She went an inning and two-thirds, allowing one run on one hit, while walking four. Addison Abell threw the final third, allowing one hit. Starter Ella Wampler threw the first 2 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on five hits, walking two and striking out one. Hannah Lange threw the next two frames, allowing one run with three hits.
EIU starter Bryanna French threw the first 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out three. Karlie McKenzie claimed the victory, allowing three runs on four hits over the final 2 1/3 frames, walking one and striking out five.
The Panthers scored five runs in the third inning as Lizzie Stiverson scored on a throwing error off a stolen base try by Alisha Frederick. Mo Hance followed with a two-run single to drive in Frederick and Abbi Hatton, then Smith closed out the inning with a two-run double to bring Olman and Hance across.
Tech put together three runs in the top of the fifth as Jailynn Paderez drove in Martin with a single to right, then Capelouto followed suit with an RBI single to right center to push Carroll across. Abbee Klinefelter then brought Bella Ochoa home with a single to left center.
In the fifth inning, EIU added another run on a passed ball allowing Mo Hance to score.
Tech led off the seventh as Carroll picked up a single down the right field line, then took second on a wild pitch. With two down, Klinefelter faced 11 pitches – including seven foul balls – before earning a walk. Bishop stood in and brought them all home with a three-run home run to left field, tying the game at 6-all.
Peyton Dwigans started the bottom of the seventh with a single down the left field line, then Chloe Wamboldt hit an infield single to third. Stiverson was hit by a pitch to load the bases, then Frederick hit a fly ball to center field, sending pinch runner Emily Konkel scrambling for the plate and walking off the game for the Panthers.
