Golden Eagle softball travels to ETSU Tuesday for midweek contest
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – After starting Ohio Valley Conference play this past Friday, the Tennessee Tech softball team will now get to take a look at a future conference opponent on Tuesday as the Golden Eagles head to Johnson City to take on Southern Conference foe East Tennessee State. The Bucs enter the game with an 11-5 record, but went 2-4 this past weekend at the Winthrop Invitational. ETSU fell in three straight games, posting a 6-4 defeat against Georgia State, then two games against host Winthrop with an extra-inning 8-7 loss and a 3-1 defeat.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – After starting Ohio Valley Conference play this past Friday, the Tennessee Tech softball team will now get to take a look at a future conference opponent on Tuesday as the Golden Eagles head to Johnson City to take on Southern Conference foe East Tennessee State.
The Bucs enter the game with an 11-5 record, but went 2-4 this past weekend at the Winthrop Invitational. ETSU fell in three straight games, posting a 6-4 defeat against Georgia State, then two games against host Winthrop with an extra-inning 8-7 loss and a 3-1 defeat.
ETSU bucked the trend with an 11-1 victory over Bucknell, then fell 4-2 to Georgia State and beat Bucknell again 7-5 on Sunday.
Tech holds a 26-12 record all-time against the Bucs, winning eight of the last 10 meetings and the last three.
As a team, ETSU is hitting .308 with 95 RBI and 104 runs scored. The Bucs have 31 extra-base hits with 21 doubles, two triples and eight home runs. Payton Moore leads the team in average with a .394 and a team-best four home runs with 12 RBI, while Abigail Taylor has the most hits (19) and runs scored (17) with 13 stolen bases.
Whitney Boone (.375) and Riley Croley (.340) stand tied for the team-lead in RBI with 16 each.
In the circle, the Bucs have a 3.01 earned run average, collecting 75 strikeouts and 37 walks with 57 total runs allowed – 45 earned. Opponents are hitting .258 against the team's pitching staff.
Eden Muncy has the team's top ERA with a 1.69 to go with her 1-1 record and a team-best 21 strikeouts over six appearances and 20 2/3 innings. Taylor Suchy (3.41 ERA) has the team's best record with a 3-1 mark in six appearances in 24 2/3 innings.
The Golden Eagles (2-17, 0-3 OVC) fell in their conference opener against SIUE with a 3-1 and 8-1 result on Friday and a 6-4 defeat on Saturday.
As a team, Tech is hitting .207 with 34 RBI and 43 total runs scored, collecting 25 extra-base hits with 20 doubles, three triples and two home runs. Jailynn Paderez leads the team in average with a .362 clip with a squad-leading 17 hits and 12 walks. Ashley Capelouto (.277) leads Tech in RBI with seven, while Capelouto and Olivia Evans (.245) each have 13 hits.
In the circle, the Golden Eagles have a staff 5.73 ERA, collecting 70 strikeouts and 68 walks with 109 total runs allowed, 92 earned. Addison Abell has the staff-best ERA with a 4.03 in 12 appearances over 33 innings, with opponents hitting .280 against. Lainey Fitzgerald leads the team in strikeouts with 29.
Following Tuesday's midweek, the Golden Eagles will return to action on Saturday and Sunday for an OVC series at Tennessee State.
