Tech women finish '09 campaign in quarterfinals of OVC Tournament
The fifth-seeded Tennessee Tech women's tennis team fell to fourth-seeded Jacksonville State, 5-0, in the quarterfinals of the 2009 OVC Championships Friday.
PADUCAH, Ky. - Jacksonville State was looking for revenge on the
team that elminated it from the post season last year, and found
it. The fifth-seeded Tennessee Tech women's tennis team fell to the
fourth-seeded Gamecocks, 5-0, in the quarterfinals of the 2009 OVC
Championships Friday.
"We had some really good moments this season," said coach Dan
Silverstein. "There is a lot to build on for next season."
Sophomore Kelly Holtzhausen finshed the spring as one of the best
seasons in Tech history. She dropped just six sets all spring,
finishing with a 14-3 individual record in singles play.
In the OVC Tournament, Tech got its lone win at number three
doubles when the duo of freshman Laura Porras and sophomore Diana
Woodcock picked up the 8-4 win over Kristen Fuller and Kimberly
Ferris.
Silverstein finishes his first season at the helm 6-3 in the
conference and 7-10 overall. After placing in a tie for third in
the OVC, Tech was seeded fifth this season at the OVC Championships
moving up from the sixth seed from 2008.
