Record-breaking performance highlights weekend for track & field
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Tennessee Tech track and field squad competed at the Hilltopper Relays this weekend on the campus of Western Kentucky.
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Tennessee Tech track and field squad competed at the Hilltopper Relays this weekend on the campus of Western Kentucky, and they did not disappoint.
Sophomore Atlanta Westbrook has continued to grow and mature in her first season at Tennessee Tech, and on Saturday all her hard work paid off as she became the newest Golden Eagle triple jump record-holder. Westbrook cleared a mark of 37-08.50 on her second jump after fouling the first. The previous record of 36-10.50 was held by teammate Kelli Keck.
Senior Rebecca Cline took second in the 5,000 meter race. She finished with a time of 19:08.31.
A few other Golden Eagles hit personal bests up in Bowling Green. Sophomore Chelsea Mills ran 12.55 in the 100 meter dash. Freshman Brittany McGee joined Mills in setting a personal record in the 100. McGee hit a time of 13.07.
McGee also hit a PR in the 200 meter dash, running a time of 27.19.
Throwers Makayla Kington and Jaelyn Todd both hit personal best in the discus. Todd threw for 110-08, while Kington hit a mark of 104-00.
Kington also hit a personal best in the shot put with a throw of 31-02. Senior Lacy Yslas set a new personal best in the javelin with a throw of 118-02, 10 feet farther than her previous best.
The Golden Eagles hit the track again on Tuesday, Apr. 22, as they head to Murray State for the MSU Invitational.
