COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Tech mounted a late comeback but could not hold off Little Rock in an 11-10 loss Sunday afternoon at Bush Stadium at the Averitt Express Baseball Complex.
The Golden Eagles (9-15, 0-3 OVC) trailed 7-3 entering the seventh inning before erupting for seven runs over the next two frames, highlighted by a six-run eighth that briefly gave Tech the lead. Jorsixt Jimenez paced the offense with a monster performance, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs, while Owen Lee added a two-run homer as part of his two-RBI day.
After Little Rock built a 7-3 advantage through five innings, Tech answered in the seventh on Jimenez's solo blast. The Golden Eagles then surged ahead in the eighth, as Landon Smelser launched a three-run homer before Jimenez delivered again with a three-run shot to cap the rally and put Tech in front, 10-7.
Little Rock (14-10, 3-0 OVC) responded in the ninth, scoring four runs, including a go-ahead three-run home run from Kade Smith, to reclaim an 11-10 lead.
Tech threatened in the bottom of the ninth, putting runners on base, but was unable to push across the tying run.
Smelser finished with three RBIs on his eighth-inning homer, while Tech drew seven walks and recorded nine hits in the contest.
Despite the loss, the Golden Eagles showed resilience offensively, erasing a multi-run deficit late and putting themselves in position to secure the win.
