Golden Eagles, Carson set the pace on first day at Ann Rhoads Classic
With senior Diana Carson leading the way, the Tennessee Tech women's golf is tied for first place after the first round of the Birmingham Southern College Ann Rhoads Classic. The teams play the final 18 holes Monday.
CALERA, Ala. -- With senior Diana Carson leading the way, the
Tennessee Tech women's golf team is tied for first place halfway
through the 36-hole Ann Rhoads Invitational, hosted by Birmingham
Southern College.
Carson shot a 76 Sunday in the first tour of the Timberline Golf
Club and sits two shots off the lead heading into Monday's final
round. The Golden Eagles and Indiana State are knotted at 320 after
the first round in the team standings.
Junior Carley Ryhne and freshman Amanda Randolph are next on the
individual leaderboard for the Golden Eagles after shooting 81 each
on Sunday while Megan Bradford is one shot back at 82. Lindsay
Spradlen completes Tech's lineup and is four shots back with an
86.
Jennifer Sells of Jackson State is the individual leader at 74,
while Carson and Lipscomb's Katie Purcell are tied for second at
76.
Tech's Katie Brown is also playing in the tournament in the
individual competition and is tied for 13th place with an 82.
Jackson State is in third place at 326 in the Black Division --
the NCAA Division I teams at the tournament -- six strokes behind
Tech and Indiana State, followed by Butler (329), Evansville (335)
and Lipscomb (374).
The tournament also includes a "Gold Division" of non-Division I
programs, with West Florida in the lead. The individual leader in
the Gold Division are Ashley Lovell of Birmingham Southern and
Emily Gibson of Montevallo at 74.
