FLORENCE, Ala. – Tennessee Tech jumped out to an early lead against North Alabama on Tuesday, but the host Lions' bats got hot late, leading to a tough 10-2 day in a six-inning affair.
The Golden Eagles (7-19) return to action this weekend as they host Western Illinois in Ohio Valley Conference play. All games at Tech Softball Field are free admission.
Tech put two runs on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning as Abby Shoulders walked, advanced to second on Olivia Evans' grounder, then scored on Abbee Klinefelter's double. A throwing error by the second baseman allowed Klinefelter to take third, then Lainey Fitzgerald brought her home with a sacrifice fly.
That was all the runs the Lions let Tech put on the board as Alivia Wilken held the Golden Eagles to just three hits in the contest as she picked up the complete-game victory to improve to 9-2 on the season, walking two and striking out two.
Fitzgerald was tagged for the loss, allowing three runs on four hits with a walk over the first two innings. Emily York came in and worked the next three frames, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk. Former Lion Kyleigh Pitzer started the sixth inning, but allowed five runs on four hits, then Addison Abell allowed a two-run home run to the lone batter faced, forcing the run rule.
North Alabama scored a single run in the bottom of the first on a grounder to short, then took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third with a double down the right field line and a sacrifice fly to left.
The Lions added a single run in the fifth with a single as Hailey Jones homered. UNA (22-6) then collected six runs in the bottom of the sixth, sending six straight batters to the plate with three consecutive hits before the lone out of the frame, followed by another single and a two-run home run.
Shoulders, Klinefelter and Alina Schlageter had the Golden Eagles' three hits in the contest.
