Tech rounds out Mountaineer Invitational with top-10 finish

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Wrapping up the regular season, the Tennessee Tech men's golf team completed action at the Mountaineer Invitational Tuesday afternoon while competing at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W.Va.
With one group needing to finish their second round first thing Tuesday morning, the rest of the field had a minor delay before kicking off the third and final trip around the course. When everything had settled, the Golden Eagles tied for ninth among the field of 16 teams, recording scores of 297 and 293 for an 895.
Tech tied with William & Mary while host West Virginia blew away the competition to the tune of an 18-under 846. Competing as an individual, the Mountaineers' Carson Kammann won medalist honors among the 91 golfers with a 10-under 206.
Senior Mark McDearman paced the purple and gold with a top-10 finish, tying for 10th with a full score of 1-over 217. He carded rounds of 74 and 68 on the day, collecting two birdies and 12 pars in the second round before erupting for a bogey-free third round with four birdies and 14 pars.
Finishing just two shots back of his teammate, Anders Larson tied for 16th behind a collective 219. Shooting up the leaderboard, the sophomore registered a 1-over 73 with two birdies and 13 pars in round two. He climbed even faster in the third round, firing a 3-under 69 that featured four birdies, 10 pars, and an eagle on the par-5 15th hole, his second of the tournament.
Ranking third among the Golden Eagle competitors, Jackson Skeen tied for 45th overall after turning in rounds of 73, with two birdies and 13 pars, and 76, with another birdie and 12 pars. The effort provided a final score of 228.
Haden Maxwell followed his teammate, tying for 63rd with a 231 after tallying rounds of 77 and 80. The sophomore ended the day with six total birdies. Rounding out the Tech lineup, senior Sean Anderson produced rounds of 87 and 81 to finish with a 252.
The Golden Eagles will wrap up the 2023-24 campaign next week, heading to Muscle Shoals, Ala. and the Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals for the Ohio Valley Conference Championships Sunday, Apr. 21 through Wednesday, Apr. 24.
