Golden Eagles tied for third after first round of Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The ninth annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate officially got underway Monday after Sunday's initial round was cancelled due to snow, and the Tennessee Tech men's golf team made the first trip around Sevierville Golf Club count.

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The ninth annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate officially got underway Monday after Sunday's initial round was cancelled due to snow, and the Tennessee Tech men's golf team made the first trip around Sevierville Golf Club count.
Competing at the River Course, the Golden Eagles tied for third in the field of 16 teams with Marshall. Tech put forth a 287 to finish the first round 1-under. Carson-Newman led the way after producing a 13-under 275, two strokes above Oral Roberts' 277. It was Oral Roberts' Lane Wallace pacing the individual leaderboard, firing a 6-under 66.
For Tech, redshirt freshman Jackson Skeen tore up the course in his first taste of the BNI, dropping five birdies and 11 pars to card a 3-under 69. The youngster tied for sixth on the first day of action.
Just one shot back, Nick Sutton parred eight holes on the front nine and went to work on the back stretch of the course. The sophomore turned in four birdies on his way to a 2-under 70 to tie for eighth. Mark McDearman turned in 12 pars and trio of birdies to secure a 1-over 73 and tie for 24th in the field of 93 golfers.
Recording 14 pars over the opening round was Chance Taylor, who tied for 44th in the field. Contributing one birdie as well, the junior finished with a 3-over 75. Rounding out the Golden Eagle lineup also tied for 44th was Bracton Womack. The senior earned his 75 with 11 pars and two birdies.
A quartet of Golden Eagles competed as individuals in the field, with Sean Anderson producing the top effort among the group. The sophomore tied for 24th with a 1-over 73, firing four birdies on the back nine. Junior Bryce Beeler tied for 44th with another 75 for Tech, collecting a pair of birdies and 11 pars.
Freshman Avery Irwin turned in a birdie and 10 pars for a 79 while Alexander Bassel posted two birdies as part of an 87.
The second and final round of the 2022 Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate will commence at 9:00 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.
