Tech Beach heads to Coastal Carolina Invitational Friday and Saturday
CONWAY, S.C. – The road trip continues for the Tennessee Tech beach volleyball team. After a jaunt to Atlanta for the Georgia State Day of Duals, the Golden Eagles now head to Conway, S.C., to compete Friday and Saturday in the Coastal Carolina Invitational. On Friday, Tech will take on Salem College at 10 AM, then event host Coastal Carolina at 4 PM. The event concludes on Saturday morning as the Golden Eagles take on South Florida at 8 AM.

CONWAY, S.C. – The road trip continues for the Tennessee Tech beach volleyball team. After a jaunt to Atlanta for the Georgia State Day of Duals, the Golden Eagles now head to Conway, S.C., to compete Friday and Saturday in the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
On Friday, Tech will take on Salem College at 10 AM, then event host Coastal Carolina at 4 PM. The event concludes on Saturday morning as the Golden Eagles take on South Florida at 8 AM.
Tech (1-7) showed some progress in its first action against Division I opponents on Wednesday as there was fight against Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky and Georgia State as matchups were sent to third sets, but the young Golden Eagles weren't able to overcome their opponents in the three matches.
The Salem College Spirits enter the weekend with a 5-3 record, winning their first five matches of the campaign with two 5-0 sweeps against Sandhills Community College, a pair of 3-2 victories over Richard Bland College and a 5-0 sweep over Gaston College before falling to Lynchburg (3-2), Stevenson (4-1) and Catawba (4-1).
The Spirits were scheduled to face Sandhill CC and Wake Technical CC each twice this past weekend, but no results are available.
Coastal Carolina enters the event with 4-8 record as the Chanticleers went 1-3 at the Beach Burrow Bash at Florida Atlantic, beating Palm Beach Atlantic (5-0), before falling to the No. 15 Owls (3-2), Boise State (3-2) and Florida International (3-2). CCU beat Chattanooga (3-2) and Austin Peay (5-0) at the Wheeler Beach Bash at South Carolina, then went 1-3 last weekend in their home meet with a 3-2 win over Tulane with losses to No. 15 FAU, No. 4 Cal Poly and a 3-2 decision to Georgia State.
The No. 1 pairing of Emma Kunaus and Frida Meincke Lyo leads the team with a 6-6 record, losing its last two matches, while the duo of Madeline Sigmon and Courtney Burnham also has an overall 6-6 record with a 3-5 record at No. 3 and 3-0 at No. 4 – winning their last four matches.
South Florida enters the weekend with an 8-4 record, going 3-1 at the Tulane Green Wave Invitational with wins over New Orleans (4-1), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3-2) and host Tulane (3-2), went 1-3 at the Florida State Seminole Beach Bash with a 3-0 win over Tampa, then went a perfect 4-0 last weekend at the Tampa Beach Brawl, beating Tampa 4-1, Barry University 5-0, Palm Beach Atlantic 4-1 and Eckerd College 3-2.
For the Golden Eagles, the pairings of MK Roberts and Vivian RoBards as well as Maggie Kamp and Zoe Mish each have two wins on the season, while Piper Jones/Audrey Kilgore, Alanah Craig/Kaesha Walter and Kyana Gabriel/Jordyn Hamlin each have a win under their belts.
Following the Coastal Carolina Invitational, the Golden Eagles will host their only home action of the season next week as they host Colorado Mesa on Tuesday at 11 AM and 1 PM on Tuesday, then open Ohio Valley Conference play against Morehead State on Thursday at 10 AM and 12 PM. Both matches will be in Louisville, Tenn.
