One of the most improved players on the team, Charlie is a
co-starter at Bear defensive end...will also play outside
linebacker...preseason all-OVC selection...has developed into one
of the strongest members of the team...excellent work ethic, both
on and off the field...has become a quiet leader for the Golden
Eagles...really stepped forward in 2008 after moving from tight end
to the defensive line...among OVC leaders in quarterback
sacks...should continue to have a huge impact on the defense...an
unknown quantity heading into the 2008 season until he stepped onto
the field and became a defensive weapon...great athletic
skills...good speed and is a versatile athlete...ranked second
among all of Tech's 2009 returnees in total tackles last
season.
At TECH - (In 2008): Moving to the defensive side
of scrimmage allowed Charlie to emerge as a standout performer in
his sophomore campaign...ranked fourth on the team in total
tackles, and led Tech while ranking sixth in the OVC in quarterback
sacks with five...had 65 total tackles, including 30 solo
stops...finished the year ranked second on the team in
tackles-for-loss with 10.5 for team-best 47 yards in lost
yardage...caused a fumble at Louisville...ranked 27th overall in
the OVC in total tackles, averaging 5.4 per game...impressive game
against Eastern Kentucky with career-high 12 total tackles,
including 2.5 tackles-for-loss...had QB sacks against Gardner-Webb,
Louisville, Central Methodist, Eastern Kentucky and Austin
Peay...had eight tackles at Tennessee State, seven at Austin Peay
and vs. Jacksonville State.
(In 2007): Saw action in eight games at tight
end...didn't post any statistics...filled a role as a blocker.
(In 2006): Made an appearance in the EKU
contest...received a medical redshirt season in his rookie
year.
High School: Charlie helped lead Webb School to a
9-3 overall record and a berth in the TSSAA Division II-AA state
championship game...joined prep teammate Taylor Askew in the Golden
Eagle signing class of 2006...lettered four years in football,
playing tight end and defensive end for coach Dave Meske...also
lettered three years on the baseball team, playing four different
positions...named Mr. Football and all-state, along with
all-KIL...all-state and region Player of the Year in baseball...had
16 catches for 400 yards and five touchdowns from his TE
position...on defense he had 48 total tackles, including 14 TFL and
