Bio

J.R. had another good Spring and looks ready to step forward in 2009...listed third on the depth chart at the Rock position, one of the spots with the most depth on the roster...could spend time at either Rock or Bear defensive end...spent his first season as a redshirt in 2007, then was slowed with an illness in the Spring...played some in 2008, and will be tough to keep off the field for the next three years...loaded with ability...has great size and a constant motor...very intelligent player who is in the right place...excellent attitude and extremely coachable...student of the game who can be a leader from the film room to the field...worked some as a tight end during his first season on the roster before moving to the defensive line.

AT TECH (In 2008): J.R. worked his way onto the field in seven games as a redshirt freshman, finishing with five total tackles...had two tackles against Central Methodist.

HIGH SCHOOL: A good-sized defensive lineman from Knoxville who was a standout for West High School and served as the team captain...was a first-team all-Region 3-4A selection and also received first-team all-state honors.

PERSONAL: The son of Jim and Julie Richmond...born September 11, 1988...full name is Shannon James Richmond IV...enrolled in general curriculum.
