Bio

Derek originally attended Middle Tennessee after his stellar high school career...joined the Blue Raiders as a redshirt in 2006...was on the squad in 2007 and 2008, but did not see any action...transfer to Tech in January...participated in Golden Eagle Spring drills in April...listed as an outside linebacker, he will also play at the Bear defensive end position...figures into the "dime" package...looked solid through Springs drills, and could emerge as a surprise once the season gets underway.

HIGH SCHOOL: A three-sport standout at Hunters Lane High School, including four seasons as an outside linebacker for coach Jerry Pigg...also lettered two years on the track & field team while competing in the shot put and 100-meter dash...posted a 20-10 overall record during two years on the wrestling team...as a senior, he had 86 tackles, four quarterback sacks and two fumbles caused...piled up 200 tackles in his final two seasons with eight sacks and eight fumbles caused...helped Hunters Lane reach the TSSAA playoffs all four seasons.

PERSONAL: The son of Tim and Angie Dickerson...birthdate is September 11, 1986...full name is Derek Derell Dickerson...majoring in interdisciplinary studies, with minor in marketing...younger brother, Chris, is also a member of the team, and father played at MTSU.
