Dorsey picks up OVC Defensive Player of the Week honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Fort the sixth time in her career and first time this season, Tennessee Tech senior Taylor Dorsey was honored as the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday afternoon, sharing the award with SIUE libero Nicole Kijowski.
The Golden Eagle middle blocker became the first Tech player to earn both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week accolades in the same season since Lisa Dissel took did the same during the 1998 campaign. Dorsey earned Offensive Player of the Week honors back on Oct. 17.
For the week, Dorsey averaged a whopping 1.91 blocks per set, totaling 21 across three Tech victories. The purple and gold extended its unbeaten streak to eight straight, the longest winning run by a Golden Eagle squad since claiming eight victories in a row in 1998.
The Birmingham native unloaded for her first double-double of the season at Morehead State on Wednesday, tallying 15 kills with a .344 attack percentage. She highlighted the evening with a career-high tying 11 total blocks, managing nine assists and two solo rejections.
In Friday's tilt against Little Rock, Dorsey added six more total stops and 11 kills while swinging at a .409 clip. She chipped in five terminations on just 12 attempts in Saturday's win over the Trojans, accumulating four total blocks as well.
With 499 career rejections, Dorsey sits just one away from becoming just the third member of Tech's 500-block club. She would also become the first Golden Eagle ever to post 1,000 kills and 500 blocks for a career.
The Golden Eagles hit the road for the final time in the regular season next weekend, making the long trek north for a pair of tilts at Eastern Illinois. Tech will square off with the Panthers Friday, Nov. 4 at 6:00 p.m. CT and again at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5.
