Lowery tops vault record again, Mayhew wins weight throw
Katie Lowery has broken her own school record in the pole vault to win the event at the MTSU Valentine's Invitational, and senior Ashley Mayhew also grabbed a first place finish in the weight throw Saturday.
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Tech didn't have a large number of
athletes competing Saturday at the MTSU Valentines' Invitational,
but the three who were there had a large impact on the event.
Sophomore Katie Lowery took first place in the pole vault and
broke her own school record, senior Ashley Mayhew claimed first
place in the weight throw, and senior Katherine Lynn placed fourth
in the high jump.
Lowery cleared the bar with a vault of 10 feet, breaking her
previous school mark of 9 feet, 7.25 inches. She also owns the
school outdoor record in the pole vault. Lowery was named as the
OVC Female Athlete of the Week in field events for last week.
In the weight throw, Mayhew came up a couple inches shy of the
school record that she established two weeks ago. Still, her throw
of 50 feet, 11 inches was good enough to place first Saturday.
Lynn, who also owns the school record in the high jump, was fourth
in that event Saturday when she cleared 5 feet, 4.25 inches.
The Golden Eagles take a week off to prepare for the Ohio Valley
Conference Indoor Championships in Charleston, Ill., Feb.
25-26.
