Tech bats show pop in games against Bowling Green and No. 19 Auburn

Tech (1-13) fell in both games, dropping a 15-10 decision to Bowling Green, but gave No. 19 Auburn a scare as the Golden Eagles scored six – the second-most allowed by the Tigers so far this year – as the hosts topped Tech 11-6.

AUBURN, Ala. – The offense started to shine through for the Golden Eagles on Saturday as Tech combined for 16 runs in the June B. Moore Memorial.
Tech (1-13) fell in both games, dropping a 15-10 decision to Bowling Green, but gave No. 19 Auburn a scare as the Golden Eagles scored six – the second-most allowed by the Tigers so far this year – as the hosts topped Tech 11-6.
The Golden Eagles close out the June B. Moore Memorial on Sunday with a 9:30 a.m. contest against South Alabama, then finish out the event with a noon outing against Bowling Green.
After trailing 9-1 in the first inning, then 13-1 after the third, Tech struck back for five runs in the fourth inning as Gracelyn Woollen and Haeli Bryson had RBI singles following a throwing error to plate Ella Bishop. Jordan Key also had a two-run single to plate Woollen and Bryson.
Tech had a single run in the fifth as Makayli Harris scored on a Woollen double, then sent three home in the sixth as Bishop drove in Jordynn Shirley and Sarah Livingston on a single to right, followed by a Harris grounder giving Key room to score.
Kaylan Cole took the loss, allowing nine runs on four hits and four walks in two-thirds of an inning. Woollen threw the remaining five-and-a-third, allowing five earned runs on six hits on 12 hits, walking one and striking out one.
Key went 3-for-4 in the game with two RBI, while Woollen and Bishop each went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
In the game against Auburn, Carmen Betts and Harris both went yard for Tech's first round-trippers of the season. Betts' blast brought in three in the fifth inning, while Harris' was the first of two runs in the second. Shirley also drove in Abby Shoulders on a single to center field.
Tech also got a run from Nicolle Nysted as she drove in Bryson on a single to center field.
The Golden Eagles collected seven hits, including two from Bryson.
Woollen was tagged with the loss as she allowed three earned runs out of four in three innings, walking three and striking out one. Avery Flatford allowed three runs and a walk, then Cole allowed four runs on six hits, while walking one and striking out two in three innings.
