Maurice LaPierre Named OVC-Big South Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Tennessee Tech defensive lineman Maurice LaPierre made three sacks against Gardner-Webb to earn his first OVC-Big South Co-Defensive Player of the Week honor, as announced today by the conference.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech defensive lineman Maurice LaPierre made three sacks against Gardner-Webb to earn his first OVC-Big South Co-Defensive Player of the Week honor, as announced today by the conference.
Maurice LaPierre was all over the quarterback in the 27-21 victory over Gardner-Webb on Homecoming Saturday, recording three sacks and forcing one fumble while making four total tackles in an impressive performance. LaPierre earns his first OVC-Big South Defensive Player of the Week honor after registering a season-high in tackles and sacks, as well as forcing a fumble for the first time this season.
The Golden Eagles trailed 14-3 and outscored Gardner-Webb 24-7 to complete a comeback and secure their 14th straight win and improve to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in conference this season.
LaPierre's sacks resulted in -25 yards and were huge for a defense that continues to be one of the best in the country. Tech leads the nation in rushing defense, allowing 52.4 yards per game; is 4th in scoring defense, surrendering just 16.0 points per game; and 4th in total defense, allowing 273.9 total yards per contest.
The senior from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., leads the Golden Eagles with six sacks on the season. He is tied for first on the team with seven quarterback hurries and has forced one fumble this season.
Tech held the GWU offense, which is 25th in the nation in total offense, averaging 423,6 yards per game, to 295 total yards while limiting the nation's No. 7 rushing attack (226.4 ypg) to just 128 rushing yards on Saturday.
