Tech's next Sgt. York Trophy contest is Saturday night at Austin Peay
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The second of Tennessee Tech's three games
in the battle for the annual Sgt. York Trophy is on tap Saturday at
6 p.m. in Clarksville when the Golden Eagles (3-5/1-3 OVC) meet the
Austin Peay Governors (0-7/0-4 OVC).
It's the first meeting between the two in-state rivals on the Govs
home field since 1997. After APSU left the OVC in football in 1998
and returned last year, the first meeting in the renewed rivalry
took place in Cookeville. Austin Peay won that contest, 30-27, on a
last-second field goal.
Tech owns a 25-16 advantage in the all-time series, including a
convincing 15-5 record over the Govs in Clarksville. Tech won in
Clarksville, 23-17 in 1996, and also claimed a road win over the
Govs in 1997 by a 36-3 margin.
Coach Watson Brown's team brings a 3-5 overall record into the
game, following a 35-7 loss last Thursday to UT Martin in Tech's
first Sgt. York Trophy game. The Golden Eagles will finish the
three-game challenge next week (Nov. 1) at Tennessee State.
Saturday's game can be heard live on the Golden Eagle Sports
Network, and can also be heard via either the Internet or the
telephone through Teamline. The game will also be seen live via
OVCsports.TV web streaming.
