Bio
Jessica Lane will begin her second year as assistant volleyball coach at Tennessee Tech University following two years as the head coach at the University of South Carolina-Salkehatchie.
”Jessica has the same philosophy about the sport of volleyball, and I think she’s a perfect fit for Tennessee Tech.” Blair said. “She’s a former student-athlete who understands the game from the player’s perspective as well as the coach’s perspective. Her goal is to not only develop physically and fundamentally strong student-athletes, but also to instill a high work ethic and excellent character, both on the court and in the classroom.”
A native of Knoxville, Lane has seamlessly made the transition to TTU and was a large part of the 2008 OVC championship winning team. Coach Blair will lean heavily on Lane again this year where her familiarity with the players and the system should be beneficial.
“Jess has adapted very well,” Blair said. “She has become a very valuable part of this program, and we continue to look for her to take on more responsibility”
Lane has taken every opportunity to learn from Blair, who has racked up more than 350 victories in his 25 years of coaching.
“I started the program at USC-Salkehatchie and I had to learn from my own mistakes,” Lane said. “It’s been a pleasure learning the ins and outs from someone with Coach Blair’s experience.”
Lane attended Karns High School in Knoxville where she earned eight letters while participating in three sports, including two each in softball and basketball and four on the volleyball squad. A right side/outside hitter, she helped lead Karns to two district championships, and was named the district MVP as a senior in 2000.
She played her freshman collegiate season at Piedmont College in Georgia, helping the Lions claim the conference championship. After one year, she transferred to South Carolina-Aiken where she played three seasons for coach Will Condon.
Following her playing career and prior to graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science in December 2005 from USC Aiken, she also spent the 2005 season on the coaching staff as a student assistant coach.
Lane comes to Tech after two seasons as head coach at the USC Salkehatchie, a junior college located in Walterboro, S.C.
In addition to her coaching experience at USC Aiken and USC Salkehatchie, Lane has also logged several years coaching club volleyball, including one year at the Branchville Volleyball Club and three years with the Aiken Volleyball Club.
