Mauricio migrated across the line of scrimmage, moving from wide
receiver to cornerback for his sophomore season...projected to see
a lot of playing time at the boundary corner...solid
Spring...learning the position and showing improvement daily...as
his understanding of the position develops, the more playing time
he'll see...his development as a defender is a key to giving the
Golden Eagles more options in the secondary.
AT TECH -- (In 2008): Mauricio was a wide receiver
as a true freshman and saw action in all 12 contests...caught 10
passes for 127 yards and one touchdown, and rushed four times for
21 yards...also returned three kicks for 55 yards, giving him 203
all-purpose yards...he had one carry for 28 yards against Central
Methodist...caught two passes for 21 yards against UT Martin, and
had identical numbers against Jacksonville State...his carer-best
game came in the season finale against Eastern Illinois with three
catches for 59 yards, including a 34-yard touchdown...he returned
one kickoff for 23 yards, giving him career-high 74 all-purpose
yards against the Panthers.
HIGH SCHOOL: An outstanding athlete, Wallace
played both quarterback and wide receiver at Blackman High
School...led the area in passing efficiency, completing 105-of-162
for 1,170 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 832 yards
and 17 touchdowns...first-team all-area and all-region selection,
he was the team's Offensive MVP and was picked to play in the
East/West All-Star game...also earned letters in baseball,
basketball and track & field.
