COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The athletic and promotional marketing departments at Tennessee Tech have given in to the social media craze that has taken the rest of the world by storm, captivating audiences of all ages with its uniqueness and usability. The Golden Eagles have logged on to Twitter in an effort to provide consistent, efficient information and updates to TTU fans throughout the country and world.
Twitter is simplistic in theory and by design. Essentially, it gives users a place to announce, exclaim, vent, ponder, react to, describe, criticize, sympathize and immortalize momentous (or not-so-momentous) and often times random thoughts and events in real time. However, when used consistently and purposefully, Twitter is an outstanding avenue for quick, mass communication with a large audience of followers.
The website is free to all users, and requires only a username and password to access your personal profile. Once a user is logged in to Twitter, they are able to “follow” other users – in other words, able to view updates posted by others.
And by “others” we mean virtually anyone in the world with a Twitter account. Users are not limited to following personal friends alone, but can choose to follow and view updates posted by anyone from Kim Kardashian to Kobe Bryant to Tennessee Tech Athletics – essentially becoming a fly on the wall in another user’s world.
“Tweeting,” or the act of posting updates, is rapidly becoming regular verbiage as the trend spreads – and it is spreading, quickly. For well-versed users, it’s not unusual to see multiple updates a day, a stream of constant thought made tangible on the web.
Updates, affectionately knows as “tweets,” are limited to 140 characters, reiterating to users that there is something to be said for brevity while tweeting. Tweets can range from the most basic update to one that includes photos and or links to other websites. Herein lies the benefit of the program.
With a newly created Twitter account – “TechGoldenEagle”– the Golden Eagle athletic and marketing departments will be able to blast out quick updates pertaining to game scores and statuses, or with links to press releases and feature stories to followers.
Administrators who will able to update the Golden Eagle Twitter account will include personnel in the sports information and marketing departments, as well as individual team managers, coaches and players. Tweets will be prefaced by the respective sport name – e.g. WSOC: will reference women’s soccer – in order to distinguish updates.
Fans can follow TechGoldenEagle by logging on to their twitter accounts, clicking “find people” and searching “techgoldeneagle”. Click the (+) follow button to start receiving updates from TTUsports!
