News mentions
DALLAS, Texas to HOUSTON, Texas – As the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team studied their scouting reports during the voyage from Dallas to Houston for Sunday’s second-round matchup in the WNIT against the Houston Cougars, head coach Kim Rosamond and her staff weren’t relaxing on the nearly four-hour trip. They studied film, took notes, created game plans, figured out travel, food and lodging – and that’s just scratching the surface.
HOUSTON, Texas – Tennessee Tech wasn’t going down without a fight. After all, throughout the course of the 2021-22 season, the Golden Eagle women had never backed down against tough odds, even against opponents from the upper echelon of the sport. The Golden Eagles had an opportunity. If you look at the final score, it’s misleading. The eight-point margin that Houston held on the final tally was from only its third lead of the game, boosted by a 3:17 scoring drought for Tech and nine unanswered points to take a 63-55 victory over the Golden Eagles in the second round of the WNIT.
In sports, we often talk about the power of one: the power of one player to impact a teammate or a team, the power of one coach to transform a player’s life, or even the power of one referee’s whistle to change the momentum of a game. As the head coach who has had a behind-the-scenes view to the last six seasons of Tennessee Tech women’s basketball, I was to take this time to talk about the power of one senior class that helped revive and reinvigorate TTU WBB. Kesha Brady, Jordan Brock, Mackenzie Coleman, Megan Clark, Anna Jones and Grace Pelphrey have all left an undeniable mark on Cookeville, Tennessee Tech and all who love this program.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – As the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team’s regular-season comes to a close on Saturday, it’s a bittersweet moment. It’s the time to honor one of the most prolific classes in Golden Eagle history, recognizing their exploits, celebrating their victories and extending the gratitude for representing the Purple and Gold. But, at the same time, the road is not yet complete. In addition to Saturday’s regular-season finale against UT Martin – tipping off at 5:30 p.m. from the Eblen Center – the Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Championships in Evansville, Ind., are next week, and there’s still the opportunity for postseason basketball after that.
COOKEVILLE – When it comes to the series between the Tennessee Tech and Middle Tennessee women’s basketball teams, the word battle comes to mind. The series, which has been in play nearly every season of the two program’s existence, continues Monday night as the Golden Eagles host the Blue Raiders.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It’s always nice to open the season with a W. The Tennessee Tech women’s team did just that in decisive fashion on Tuesday night, using a strong defensive effort to shut down Bethel out of the NAIA’s Mid-South Conference 85-46. The Golden Eagles (1-0) return to action on Saturday as they host Chattanooga at 7 p.m. Bethel remains at 3-1 since it counted the game as an exhibition contest.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The exhibition contest for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team was a productive one on Thursday night as the Golden Eagles saw action from every member of the 2021-22 roster, putting together an excellent showing as Tech defeated Division II Christian Brothers 86-56. While the statistics from Thursday’s game won’t count toward career totals, there were a lot of positives to come out of the contest.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It’ll be a chance for fans to get a sneak peek at the 2021-22 Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team on Thursday night as the Golden Eagles will host Christian Brothers in an exhibition contest. The game is the first portion of the Purple Palooza doubleheader at the Hooper Eblen Center. Doors open to the public Thursday at 4:30 p.m. as local businesses and organizations, as well as Tennessee Tech teams and student groups will host trick-or-treat stations around the Eblen Center concourse. The women’s game against Christian Brothers will begin at 5:30 p.m., while the Tennessee Tech men will take on Berea College at approximately 7:30 p.m.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Typically every season, the Ohio Valley Conference basketball coaches would make the trip – most recently to Evansville, Ind., the host site of the conference championship tournament and meet with the media to preview the upcoming season. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic, things changed. Last season, the OVC Basketball Media Day was held virtually, using Zoom and connecting the coaches with conference media from the comfort of their desks and computer screens. Since then, all of the league’s media days have followed suit. On Wednesday, the first day for the OVC Basketball Virtual Media Day as it concludes Thursday, the Tennessee Tech teams had their chance to speak to the media.
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – If the Ohio Valley Conference voters’ crystal balls are correct this year, the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team could have a very exciting season ahead. The Golden Eagles were picked second in the OVC’s preseason poll, their highest projection since being selected to win the OVC East Division in 2013-14. That season, Tech had 12 first-place votes and 119 total points. The 2021-22 Golden Eagles surpassed that overall point total, earning 134 total points in the voting, while claiming two of the 20 first-place votes. Belmont claimed 15 first place votes and 159 points total as the preseason ballots placed the Golden Eagles just 15 points behind the Bruins and nine points ahead of Murray State as the Racers claimed three first-place votes and 125 total points.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With momentum building over recent years, so has the excitement for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team. With the 2021-22 campaign approaching, Tech women’s head coach Kim Rosamond spoke to the assembly at the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce’s monthly Breakfast Before Hours event to drum up support for this new year. “I am really, really excited about this season,” Rosamond said. “This is the team we have been building toward for the last five seasons and I’m really excited about the group that is coming back. We have a bigger roster than we’ve ever had with 16 players, which is interesting in practice, but also a very big positive. We have a lot of experience back.”
