Tech junior earns second adidas® OVC Newcomer of the Week honor
For the second time this season, Tennessee Tech women’s basketball junior Samaria Howard was named the adidas® OVC Newcomer of the Week, as voted on by the Sports Information Directors.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – For the second time this season, Tennessee Tech women's basketball junior Samaria Howard was named the adidas® OVC Newcomer of the Week, as voted on by the Sports Information Directors.
The Florida State College at Jacksonville transfer earned her first honor following the first week of competition. She has had 14 double-figure scoring games so far this season, including 18 points in a win over Murray State, and she followed up with 14 points in a win over Austin Peay. She averaged 16.0 points over the two games.
Howard added four rebounds and an assist against the Racers, while she followed it up with three rebounds against APSU.
UT Martin's Ashia Jones earned the adidas® OVC Player of the Week, while Gwen Adams of SIU Edwardsville earned the adidas® OVC Freshman of the Week.
The Golden Eagles will host Jones and UT Martin on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. as a part of the third straight doubleheader stretch with the TTU men's team. Residents of Putnam County can get tickets to the doubleheader for just one dollar.
