Golden Eagles eighth at OVC Championships with one round to play

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team saw some improvement on its second day of the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, but still fell back a spot in the rankings heading into the final round of action at the Fighting Joe course at The Shoals.

The Golden Eagles shaved one stroke from its round from Sunday, posting a 291 to sit in eighth place among the 11 teams in competition with a 7-over 583 through two rounds. Morehead State jumped past the purple and gold after firing the event's second-lowest total of the day, an improvement of 10 shots. Tech sits just 10 strokes back of fourth place heading into the final round.

Junior Cameron Yeary turned in the most impressive showing on the links for the Golden Eagles on Monday, cooking a 3-under a 69. He finished the day in second among Tech's lineup with a 147, tying for 27th among the 55 golfers.

Leading Tech into the final day tied for 20th was Cookeville native Will Brooks. He posted a 4-over 76 for a total score of 145. Senior Matthew Giles was just one stroke back of Yeary for the event, owning a 148 to tie for 31st after capturing a 78 on Monday.

Sophomore Bracton Womack tied for 34th while sitting one shot behind Giles. His 149 came from a slight improvement from day one to two, carding a 74 to go along with a first-round 75. Rounding out the Tech lineup, freshman Bryce Beeler shot even-par on Monday, tying for 37th at 151 overall.

The third and final round of action is set to commence on Tuesday morning, with the Golden Eagles beginning their tee times at 8:50 a.m. CT.
