COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- After upsetting APSU on Thursday night, the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles are just one game out of first place in Ohio Valley Conference standings with a 5-3 record. They’ll look to move up in standings when they tip off against no. 1 ranked TSU (6-2) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
The Golden Eagles are coming off of a last-second win over the top-ranked Governors of Austin Peay, when Zac Swansey’s three-point shot with 2.7 seconds left on the clock lifted Tech to a 71-68 win over the Govs. Tech (9-8 overall) has now won six of their last 10 games played, and will look to build upon that record against TSU on Saturday.
Tennessee State is currently maintaining a 9-9 overall record, 6-2 in OVC play. They have won eight of their last 11 games played, and are riding a three-game win streak having just downed Jacksonville State Thursday night, 68-63.
Tech holds a narrow 26-24 edge on the lifetime series over TSU since the team’s first meeting in the 1979-80 season, and have split games with the Tigers for the past three seasons. In their last meeting at Tennessee State, the Tigers owned a 109-102 victory over the Golden Eagles.
Fans who can not make it to the game in Nashville, which is the second of a double header event with the women’s teams, can listen to Roger Ealey calling the action on the Golden Eagle Sports Network or on free TeamLine at 1-800-846-4700 (Tech code 0654) or on the internet.
